Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Halo collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. Halo is designed for students applying to college, many of whom are minors, so please read the sections on minors’ privacy and sensitive information carefully.
1. Who We Are
Halo (“we,” “us,” “our”) is a college application workspace and essay-coaching platform operated by Fruitful LLC. Our website is haloadmit.com. For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@haloadmit.com, or by mail at 9169 W State St #4497, Garden City, ID 83714.
2. Who Halo Is For & Age Requirements
Halo is built for high school students preparing for college admissions, as well as their parents or guardians. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to use Halo. If you are under 18, you may use Halo only with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian, who agrees to our terms on your behalf. See Section 9 for more.
3. Information We Collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and password, and your date of birth to confirm you meet our minimum age. If you use Google Sign-In, we receive your name and email from Google.
Profile and academic information
During onboarding and as you use Halo, you may provide your intended major, grade level, graduation year, high school, state of residence, GPA, test scores and testing plans, extracurricular activities and resume, and your preferred coaching style. All of these fields are optional.
Demographic and background information (sensitive)
You may optionally tell us about your background — for example your race or ethnicity, gender, first-generation status, financial-aid needs, or other identity context — so Halo can tailor its guidance. This is sensitive information; providing it is entirely your choice. See Section 4.
Essay content
We store the essays you write and edit on Halo, along with the AI-generated analysis, scores, and feedback associated with them.
Voice recordings and your story profile
If you use the story feature during onboarding, you may either record short audio answers or type them. Audio is stored securely and transcribed to build your story profile; typed answers are stored as text. You can delete these at any time.
Parent and family information
If you invite a parent or guardian, we collect their email to send the invitation and, if they create an account, to give them the access you allow. Parent accounts can see the information described in Section 8 — never your essay drafts unless you choose to share them.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. Stripe provides us with your subscription status and payment history.
Booking and text-message (SMS) information
If you book a call with us through haloadmit.com and provide a phone number, we collect that number so we can send you text (SMS) messages about your booking — a confirmation and up to two reminders (about one hour and fifteen minutes before your scheduled call). Providing your number and opting in to these texts is optional and is not a condition of any purchase. Message and data rates may apply, message frequency varies, and you can reply STOP at any time to opt out or HELP for help. See Section 7 for how we handle this information.
Referral and invitation information
If you arrive through a referral or affiliate link, we record the referral code to attribute your signup. If you invite a friend, parent, or guardian, we collect the email address you enter so we can send the invitation.
Usage and device data
We record which features you use, how many AI calls your account generates, your time zone, and progress within Halo’s activities and streaks — to run the service, personalize timing and reminders, enforce limits, and manage costs. We also use product analytics to understand how Halo is used and improve it; when you are signed in, this activity is associated with your account (see Section 7 and Section 13). We do not use advertising trackers or sell your activity to advertisers.
4. Sensitive Personal Information
Some of what Halo can collect — such as race or ethnicity, financial-aid status, and similar background details — is considered “sensitive personal information” under laws like the California Privacy Rights Act. We collect it only when you choose to provide it, and we use it only to personalize the guidance Halo gives you. We do not sell or share it, we do not use it to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, and you can decline to provide it or remove it at any time in your settings or by contacting us.
5. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, maintain, personalize, and improve the Halo platform
- Generate AI-powered essay feedback, scoring, suggestions, and your story profile
- Process payments and manage your subscription
- Send transactional messages (verification, password resets, payment and account notices)
- Send product updates or offers where permitted — you can opt out anytime
- Enforce usage limits, prevent abuse and fraud, and keep the service secure
- Respond to your support requests and comply with legal obligations
6. AI Processing
To generate feedback, scoring, and your story profile, the relevant content — your essays, story answers, and the profile details needed for personalization — is sent to third-party AI providers. Specifically:
- Anthropic generates essay analysis, scoring, and coaching.
- OpenAI transcribes your voice answers and creates numerical “embeddings” of essay and reference text so Halo can retrieve relevant guidance. Embeddings are mathematical representations, not readable copies.
- Cohere re-ranks retrieved guidance for relevance; the query it receives is derived from your essay and prompt text.
Under our agreements with these providers, your content is processed only to provide these features and is not used to train their models. We do not sell or share your essays or story content with any third party for advertising or marketing.
Improving Halo. We may use de-identified essays, scores, and feedback — with names and identifying details stripped — to calibrate and improve the quality of Halo’s own analysis. This is never sold or shared, and you can turn it off at any time with the “Help improve the essay engine” control in your settings; when it is off, your work is excluded from this use.
8. Family & Parent Access
If you connect a parent or guardian, they can see a limited view of your progress — such as your school list, application deadlines, and overall activity — so they can support you without hovering. If you additionally opt into Insights, each analyzed essay’s Halo scorebecomes visible to your parent as well. Parents never see your essay text or drafts at any access level unless you separately choose to share a draft with them. You control parent access and can change or remove it at any time in your settings.
9. Children’s & Minors’ Privacy
Halo is not intended for and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use Halo; if we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
Many of our users are minors aged 13–17. If you are under 18, you should use Halo only with a parent or guardian who has reviewed this policy and our Terms and consents on your behalf. Parents and guardians may review their student’s information, request corrections, or request deletion by contacting us at hello@haloadmit.com.
10. Your Privacy Choices & Rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- Access and update your profile information in your settings
- Delete your essays and story answers at any time
- Delete your entire account — and all associated data — from Settings, or by contacting us
- Request a copy of your data
- Opt out of non-essential product or marketing emails (via the email link or your settings)
To make a request, email hello@haloadmit.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally within 30–45 days).
11. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you specific rights. In the past 12 months we have collected the categories of information described in Section 3 (identifiers, account and academic information, optional sensitive information, audio/essay content, commercial/payment information, and usage data), used and shared them as described in Sections 5–7, and retained them as described in Section 15. You have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Limit the use and disclosure of your sensitive personal information
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information
We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use sensitive personal information for anything other than providing the service. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To exercise them, email hello@haloadmit.com; you may use an authorized agent, and we will verify requests against your account.
12. Where Your Data Is Processed
Halo is operated from the United States and your information is processed and stored in the U.S. If you access Halo from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.
14. Data Security
Your data is stored on Supabase (hosted on AWS) and Vercel, with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production data is restricted to authorized personnel. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information, and we will notify affected users and regulators of a data breach as required by law.
15. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data promptly (generally within 30 days), except where we must retain limited records for legal, tax, or billing purposes.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice on the site. Your continued use of Halo after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
